All of us here at the Arizona Animal Welfare League are thinking of you and your family.  These are difficult times for everyone. It is our hope that you have found comfort and joy in the animals you have in your life as we know that is one of the silver linings in all of this – our animals love having us home and safe.

We wanted to take this opportunity to share with you a few, helpful provisions of the new CARES (Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security) Act. This new law is not only for businesses facing economic hardship, but it also designed to help you receive financial benefits.  There are some new ways you can receive financial benefits and help organizations like us:

  • The new law allows all taxpayers to take a charitable deduction of up to $300 per taxpayer, even if you do not itemize. $300 can make the difference between life and death for many of the animals we save that need extraordinary medical care.
  • For those who do itemize their deductions, the new law allows for cash contributions to qualified charities such as ours to be deducted up to 100% of your adjusted gross income for the 2020 calendar year.
  • The new law temporarily suspends the requirements for required minimum distributions (RMD) for the 2020 tax year. This probably comes as a relief to many of you who would have had to withdraw a greater percentage of your retirement accounts. Many of our donors use their RMD to make a gift from their IRA. If you are 70½ or older, you can still make a gift from your IRA or name us as a beneficiary.

*From what I know, this is true for 2020; you will want to consult with your own advisor for the most accurate, up-to-date information.

Like many others, AAWL is navigating unchartered waters.  As we continue to provide limited services, including adoptions by appointment, we know that when our community opens back up the demand for our services will be there and we want to be prepared and ready to help.  We could not do this without you!

We are so grateful for your generosity, which touches—and changes—so many lives. Please contact me to discuss how your gift can help further our mission.

Stay healthy and safe,

P.S.  Your previous support has helped us care for over 100,000 animals over the past 49 years and allows us to continue our mission to rescue, rehome and re-habilitate homeless pets, and for that we can’t thank you enough.
