We are honored to announce we have received a $25,000 grant from PetSmart Charities® to help more vulnerable animals in the Valley find forever homes. During PetSmart Charities® first National Adoption Week of 2025, taking place March 24-30, we will bring adoptable pets to the 24th Street and Baseline PetSmart location. We will be celebrating National Adoption Week by hosting a special pop-up event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 29, featuring adoptable puppies and kittens. We hope to find forever homes for six to 12 pets during the event.
Each year, approximately 4 million pets enter U.S. shelters. In Phoenix, we currently have 305 animals in its care, including various adoption locations and in foster care. The PetSmart Charities grant will directly support our in-store adoptions program at the Baseline store with a goal of finding homes for 350 pets in 2025.
“As a nonprofit organization that is fully funded by the generosity of our community, we’re grateful for the support of PetSmart Charities,” said Alessandra Navidad, CEO of AAWL. “In recent years, we have seen a substantial increase in the number of pet surrenders due to the rising cost of living in Arizona. As a result, AAWL and other local shelters are at full capacity. We encourage the Phoenix community to save a life and make space for other vulnerable animals by adopting an animal and being its forever family.”
PetSmart Charities connects adoption partners such as AAWL with local PetSmart stores to bring adoptable pets in for adoption events and meet and greets. These include pets of all ages, breeds, temperaments, and energy levels. Staff and volunteers are available to help make ideal matches considering lifestyle and other preferences such as energy levels, personalities, sizes, etc.
