The Arizona Animal Welfare League (AAWL) – the largest and oldest no-kill shelter in Arizona – is seeking a full-time Database Administrator. The Database Administrator will help record donations into the donor database (Blackbaud’s Raiser Edge), maintain database hygiene, and provide general administrative support to the development team.

AAWL is looking for someone to fill this role who has an extreme attention to detail, strong organization and time management skills as well as solid communication and interpersonal skills. They must be comfortable working at a computer for long periods of time and interacting frequently with the Development Team as well as multiple co-workers in the multiple program departments. The Database Administrator position also requires some decision-making skills and the ability to work independently.

This position reports to the Annual Giving Manager and works closely with the Development Operations Manager and Accounting Department. This is a full-time (30 – 40 hours/week), non-exempt position in Phoenix. The hours range from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Shifts are generally 7.5-8.5 hours per day. Monday through Friday per week in the office. Evening and weekend availability required for major events (two-four times/year).

Qualifications

• Maintain accuracy, quality, and integrity of the Raiser’s Edge database information.
• Process all incoming donations into the Raiser’s Edge database with accuracy and timeliness.
• Work with the Director of Finance and Development Operations Manager to process weekly/monthly deposits and conduct monthly reconciliation with the Director of Finance and Development Operations Manager.
• Maintain reporting schedules and pulling reports as necessary
• Ensure the Development Department procedures and practices are accurate, efficient, and well documented.
• Troubleshoot database issues.
• Assist with researching and qualifying new prospective donors.
• Assist with pulling lists and creating relevant reports to make data-informed decisions.
• Ensure accurate and timely gift acknowledgement (twice per week) for all incoming donations.
• Call and thank assigned donors who are not in a portfolio.
• Save acknowledgement letters appropriately for annual audit and for donor needs/requests.
• Prepare board reports and documents for board meetings
• Prepare materials for solicitors, donors and board members as needed.
• Assists in scheduling meetings with prospective funders and donors, as needed.
• Attend regular staff and department meetings.
• Support the Annual Giving Manager in the logistical planning and execution of our annual Evening to Paws gala.
• Assist in administrative duties of the event related to attendance, sponsorships and in-kind items.

Requirements

Must pass a background check.

High school diploma or equivalent required.

One year of database admin experience in a for-profit or nonprofit setting.

Experience with Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge preferred.

Experience in non-profit, advocacy or other community-based groups is valuable.

Excellent administrative skills: desire to support the department through administration, the ability to follow through on work assignments with a minimum of direct supervision.

Strength in proofreading and ardent attention to detail.

Flexibility, determination and good humor.

Enthusiasm for working with diverse communities.

Employment Details

AAWL offers compensation that is commensurate with experience and competitive with animal welfare salaries. This position starts at $40,867.00 - $51,084.00. This is a full-time, non-exempt position that accrues paid sick time, paid time off and twelve paid holidays. Weekend availability expected occasionally. Full time non-exempt position is eligible for medical insurance and other voluntary benefits.
