Volunteer Orientation & Training

volunteer orientationWhat is the process to become an AAWL Volunteer?

In order to volunteer for the Arizona Animal Welfare League & SPCA, it is mandatory that you attend one of our Volunteer Orientation sessions. Our Volunteer Orientations are twice per month (unless otherwise indicated on our website calendar). In this one and a half hour session, you will learn about what we do, where we receive our animals, the ways in which volunteers can assist AAWL & SPCA and all the opportunities in which you can become involved! You will meet staff members, talk about animals and learn about the importance of our volunteers.

After you have completed Volunteer Orientation, the next step is to attend Volunteer Shelter Training. Volunteer Shelter Training will give you more in-depth information about volunteer protocols and working directly with the animals at the shelter to prepare you for your "Buddy Day". We offer a Volunteer Shelter Training class after the Saturday Volunteer Orientation and two more dates each month to accommodate everyone's busy schedules.

The "Buddy Day" is the last but most important step to becoming a volunteer, in that you will get one-on-one hands-on training with a current volunteer to learn the volunteering process and routine. We will discuss how to get your set up for your "Buddy Day" during Volunteer Orientation.

Our Orientations and Shelter Training classes are held in our Pets Gone Wild™ Training Center located at 30 N. 40th Pl., Phoenix, AZ 85034. Parking is located in front of the building and also in the NE. lot on the corner of 40th St. & Washington. We look forward to meeting you!
