Teen Tracks

(Ages 13-17)

teen tracks

Teen Tracks started in the fall of 2002. Since then, over one hundred teens have passed though our program, working closely with our staff and volunteers to gain knowledge, leadership skills, build responsibility, develop new friendships, and help make a difference in the lives of animals and people in our community.

Teens participate in a minimum of six weekend shifts during their 13-week course. Teen Trackers receive in-depth training in animal body language and animal handling skills, assist with daily care of the animals, participate in guest presentations and education field trips, and help lead other education programs held at the shelter.

Teens must complete an application and essay to be considered for the next semester Teen Tracks. A minimum of two recommendation forms are required to be included with the application (teachers, school staff or community leaders are recommended).

All applications are reviewed, and a limited number of candidates demonstrating an interest in sharing their enthusiasm for animals, as well as animal related careers, will be selected to come in for a brief interview.
